Moving on in our sculpting series to ALL ABOUT ABS! Upper! Lower! Obliques! Let's do it!
My favorite ab exercises for each area are:
Upper Abs: crunches Start laying on your back with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Cross your arms across your chest and slowly raise your head and shoulder blades of the ground crunching your upper abdominals. Then return to the starting position. Repeat 20 times.
Lower Abs: leg lowers Start on your back with your legs straight up in the air, feet together and straight knees. Slowly lower both legs down almost to the ground and the bring them back to the starting position.
Obliques: Russian Twist: start in a seated position with your knees bent and heels off the ground. Either grab a weight or to modify hold your hands together. Slowly twist side to side. You should feel the sides of your stomach.
There are tons and tons of abdominal exercises, but each of these targets a specific area.
My favorite abdominal exercise that targets all three areas at the same time is a bicycle. For this exercise, you will start in a hollow position on your back with your legs out straight and hands behind your head. Slowly crunch and twist bring one elbow to the opposite knee and switch back and forth.
