Hey Fit Readers!
Happy Thanksgiving's Eve! I hope you all have plans to spend time with family and friends. This morning I am excited and hoping my day flies by so we can get to Dallas to see family and friends for Thanksgiving! Our plan is to leave sometime this afternoon and we hope to beat some of the traffic. We will see!
So what are your plans? What traditions do you have? I know I mentioned in my blog last week that we do the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. In my opinion, it's the best way to start the day. After we run, burn some calories, and get some fresh air, we shower up and all head to my parent's house. From there, it's pretty traditional, cooking, The Macy's Day Parade, football, and lots of talking and laughter. I love it! We usually try to time Thanksgiving lunch/dinner around 2:00....or half time of the Cowboy's game.
So let's talk about the food! Most people...I've heard it all week long...plan to gain a few pounds on thanksgiving! Can you imagine PLANNING to gain weight?? Almost all year, I hear people talking about wanting to LOSE weight, but it comes to one day and it's "stuffing your face"! Wait a minute! Why put yourself through being miserably full and then having to spend every last minute in the gym burning off ONE meal. Ok, so it's easy....portion control! Eat everything on the menu, but eat a little less of the yellow/white starches and a little more of the greens. This way you will be satisfied by trying a LITTLE of everything but not too much to make you feel overly full and gain weight. I hope you enjoy your meal and take into consideration the portion control rule!
After you eat, try to stay active rather than laying on the couch.....I know it's hard! But, if you eat smaller portions, you may not feel the need for that late afternoon nap. Take a walk for 20-30 minutes with your family and let that food digest!
I am thankful this year for a happy and healthy lifestyle! And I'm thankful for YOU! Stay Fit Friends!
