Hey Fit Friends!
A lot of people seem to not understand why whole grains are different than white breads and white grains. So, here is a little info that will hopefully explain why whole grains are important for your everyday diet.
White bread and grains like white rice are actually made from whole wheat, but they are refined and processed. Studies have shown that eating white breads can lead to diabetes while eating whole grains can actually reduce your risk of heart attack. I read about a study that was done showing a 20% decrease in heart attacks from people who ate whole grains. Other positive information when eating whole grains are that they are made up of so many important vitamins. Whole grains are high in fiber which helps with digestion, weight loss, and maintaining weight. Whole grains also have a good source of vitamin B6, folic acid, magnesium and vitamin E.
So, now that you know the difference, isn't it clear that whole grains are better for you!? So, next time you are at the store, buy whole wheat bread, brown rice, use whole wheat flour to make pizza, cookies, waffles, etc!
